I spoke with the German half of my family not too long ago, and this is all a consequence of the political idealism that's pervasive across Europe. It's a real shame, since Europe has so much potential. But the policies that, on the surface, seem well-meaning are slowly strangling them.
I don't think that's only problem though. I think the way business and innovation is done now is contrary to the German psyche. The way Germans think is generally slow and methodical. They want to fully understand and perfect their craft. But in today's world, by the time their done building their product, their competitors are already shipping their newest innovation.
Just look at the recent controversy around Rheinmetall. The CEO recently said the Ukrainians were playing with, "Legos," and their drones were, "not innovation." The fact is, those cheap shitty drones would probably blow up Rheinmetall's entire industrial capacity in less than a week.
The continued capitulation to utopian ideals is going to get us all killed. Or at best, cause our societies to slowly crumble.
